They promised to free us from our glowing screens. But if you follow the latest tech news updates, you know these devices are failing fast. Reviews are bad, buyers are returning them, and sales are very low.

Why did these highly hyped gadgets fail so quickly? The answer is simple. They tried to replace a device that we already love and use every single day. Your smartphone is already the best AI device you own. It does not make sense to carry another cheap plastic box in your pocket just to ask questions to a digital assistant.

The Big Problem with New AI Gadgets

Most of these new AI devices do not have screens. They want you to talk to them for every single task. But talking out loud to a computer in public is awkward. Imagine standing in a busy grocery store and whispering to a pin on your shirt. People will look at you funny. Screens are still the best way to get information quickly because we can scan a page in seconds.

Another huge issue is speed. These gadgets have to send your voice to the cloud, wait for a server to think, and then send the answer back. Sometimes this process takes five to ten seconds. Your phone can search the web in less than a second. In our busy daily life, nobody wants to wait for a slow gadget to tell them the weather or the price of a stock.

Battery life is also terrible. Many of these small devices get very hot and die after just a few hours of use. We already have to charge our phones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones every night. Nobody wants to add another charger to their nightstand for a device that barely works. It is just more clutter to worry about.

Apple and Google are already building smart features directly into the software you use every day. You do not need to buy brand new hardware to get great tools. Smartphones have huge advantages that small startups cannot match. They have super fast processors, bright screens, amazing cameras, and big batteries. Your phone already has your whole life on it.

We just need our phones to be better at helping us with daily tasks. Companies that make these standalone devices made a big mistake. They thought we wanted a new physical object to hold. What we actually wanted was better software. The physical phone is here to stay, and smart software is just going to make it more useful over time.
